What to expect on a session

We know that joining a new session can come with anxiety for a lot of people, so here's an idea of what to expect on our sessions.

You may also find our FAQ page useful.

Depending on which session you are booking on, things may look a little different, but all sessions take place on vorpalboard - you can have a look at their website and layout by clicking here.

This system allows voice and video chat to be visible on a single screen, along with dice rolling, resources, and the game board.

The game board may be digital, a stream of my live board, or a combination of both, and you will have your own coloured cursor to move around to show me things you want to point to or ask about.

Here's a few examples of what our maps may look like:

Table top roleplay minituares are shown taking part in a race, one has fallen
A tabletop roleplay map shows a mine entrance with goblins, spiders, mincecarts and some victorious heroes.
A virtual pirate ship with cannons, and tokens representing fire and heroes are shown

If you are on a beginners course with us, you will be sent a short introductory video to watch before the course, this will explain a little about some of the concepts, so you can re-watch it as often as you need.

Our beginners courses start with a little introduction on ground rules, respect and what we need from players to ensure a fair, and fun game.

We will then head into a mini imaginative situation to get creativity flowing before you are able to create your own characters, I'll explain rules and concepts as we go, and you can ask any questions you need, or contact me between sessions too.

You will then go on to take this character to an imaginary festival filled with games that make fun of learning how to play, and we will then build upon each week as the characters go on a mini adventure, introducing all of the main aspects of play over the course.

If you are an experienced player joining us for a campaign, you will be asked to bring your own pre-created characters to the session. You can expect the same gaming system to play on, the same style of maps (and often some impromptu ones too) and the same level of support if you need it.
